# Streaming from dfine.io Studio

> Start Streaming stays grey, a stream is refused, a plug-in sends nothing, the picture is black or stutters: causes and fixes in dfine.io Studio.

Find your symptom below. Studio names most problems in the line under **Start Streaming** or in the status bar.

## Start Streaming stays grey

**Add the stream key to start.** Paste the key first. For Streaming Classic it reads **Add the server URL and stream key to start.**

**Fix the server URL to start.** The URL does not start with `rtmps://`, and Studio shows **Only RTMPS works here.** Copy the RTMPS URL from your stream again.

**Switch to another source to start the stream.** The **Playout** row is on air. Click a source row.

**The room is locked.** A locked Review room refuses every stream until the host opens it again.

## The stream is refused

**dfine.io Review refused the stream.** You pasted the key of an RTMPS source. Create a **WHIP** source in the room, or use **Quick Create**, and paste its key.

Keep **Bitrate** at or below what your room or plan allows, see [Stream settings](/en/apps/studio/stream-settings).

## A plug-in row reads Plug-in not connected

**The host was running during the install.** Quit Premiere Pro, After Effects or Resolve completely and start it again.

**Premiere Pro or After Effects: Mercury Transmit is off.** Tick **Enable Mercury Transmit** and **dfine.io Transmit**. See [Premiere Pro](/en/workflows/premiere-pro) or [After Effects](/en/workflows/after-effects).

**DaVinci Resolve: the free version.** OpenFX plug-ins from other vendors need Resolve Studio. See [DaVinci Resolve](/en/workflows/davinci-resolve).

**Nothing is playing.** The hosts only send while they play.

## The picture is black

**Screen Sharing.** Allow **Screen & System Audio Recording** for Studio in **System Settings → Privacy & Security**, then restart Studio.

**SDI/HDMI IN reads Not available on this Mac.** Install Blackmagic Desktop Video, connect the card and restart Studio.

## Picture arrives, sound does not

**DaVinci Resolve.** Switch on **Transmit Audio** on the node. Only if Resolve monitors through a Blackmagic card: in **Preferences → Video and Audio I/O**, set **I/O Engine** to **System Audio** and switch on **Mirror audio I/O engine output**. To leave Resolve unchanged, stream the card's SDI output looped into its input as an [SDI or HDMI feed](/en/workflows/sdi-hdmi).

**Premiere Pro.** Tick **dfine.io Transmit** under **Audio Stream** as well.

## The stream stutters

Studio says **The encoder cannot keep up** and the status bar shows **ENCODER OVERLOAD**. Click **Restart with HD cap**, or lower **Bitrate**. See [Stream settings](/en/apps/studio/stream-settings).

## Studio does not start

**Studio says it is already running.** Studio runs once per Mac. Switch to the open window.
