# OBS (Open Broadcaster Software)

> Use the free OBS encoder for RTMPS ingest with the dfine.io profile.

OBS is a free encoder that pushes **RTMPS**, the ingest protocol Streaming Classic uses. Reach for OBS when your source is a screen share, a media file, or an SDI feed looped through a capture device, and no dedicated hardware encoder is at hand.
