# Compatibility

> Software and hardware encoders that feed Streaming Classic, and what any encoder needs to work.

dfine.io works with a wide range of software and hardware encoders. For the best experience we suggest one of the options below.

## What your encoder needs

Any encoder works as long as it can do two things:

* Encode at least H.264 in 4:2:0, using the Main or Constrained Baseline profile
* Connect over secure RTMPS with SSL. RTMPS is a common streaming standard and works with most encoders.
