# Stream settings and auto-stop

> Bitrate, HD cap, the calibration gradient, encoder overload and the auto-stop limits in dfine.io Studio.

Everything that shapes the stream sits in the **Stream** panel. Studio picks the encoder itself, so there is no settings window.

## Bitrate

**Bitrate** runs from 1 to 20 Mbit/s and starts at 6. Stay within the highest bitrate your Review room or your Streaming Classic plan allows.

## Cap the stream at HD

Tick **Cap the stream at HD (1920x1080)** to scale a larger picture down for the stream. Preview and SDI output keep their size.

## Gradient for calibration

Tick **Stream a b/w gradient for calibration** and viewers see a black-to-white gradient instead of your source until you turn it off. The status bar shows **WEDGE ON STREAM** while it runs.

## When the encoder cannot keep up

If the Mac skips frames, Studio says **The encoder cannot keep up** with the share of skipped frames, and the status bar shows **ENCODER OVERLOAD**. Click **Restart with HD cap** to restart the stream at HD.

## Auto-stop

A stream that keeps running costs money until someone stops it. **Auto-stop** beside the Audio Mixer ends it for you.

| Limit | Range | Default |
| - | - | - |
| **Run time** | 1 to 24 hours | On, 24 hours |
| **No picture** (black or frozen) | 5 to 60 minutes | On, 60 minutes |

While a stream runs, Auto-stop shows how long it has been on and when it stops. Turning a limit off asks **Turn off auto-stop?** first.

Settings lock while a stream runs. Stop it to change them.
